Generation Systems that Produce up to 10,000 lbs/day

International Dioxcide is the leading chlorine dioxide generator manufacturer in North America. Our in-house engineers and staff have produced and installed more than 1,000 on-site ClO2 generators for potable water treatment, cooling tower water treatment, wastewater treatment, food and beverage treatment, and other applications. Our equipment is designed and manufactured in the United States, and installed to meet the exact specifications of our clients.

On-Site Chlorine Dioxide Generation Systems

Our seven chlorine dioxide generation platforms produce anywhere from 1 lb/day to 10,000 lbs/day. All of our generators are safe, reliable, and easy-to-operate. Many also offer custom configurations for unusual operation environments.

Chlorine Dioxide Generation Methods

The most important criteria for selecting a chlorine dioxide generator are the generation method (reaction chemistry), intended application, and required production volume. Our ClO2 generators use four of the five safest methods for chlorine dioxide production.

Each generation method has its advantages and disadvantages, which are highlighted in the chart below for your convenience. Some reaction chemistries will be more efficient, some will have less by-products, and others will have different operating costs. In most cases, we try to use existing chemical precursors – those already in use at your plant – to minimize bringing new chemicals on site.

Generator Selection and Design
Reaction Chemistry Chemical Formula Theoretical Yield (%) Reaction Efficiency (%) Effective Yield (%) Inherent Safety ClO2 Purity Service Complexity Pros Cons
Sodium Chlorite & Gaseous Chlorine 2NaClO2 + Cl2

2ClO2  + 2NaCl

100 95+ 95+ High – with vacuum based systems
  • Excellent
  • Slight excess of Cl2
Minimal
  • Lowest Cost
  • Less by-products than chlorate reaction
  • Gas Cl2 on site
Sodium Chlorite, Hypochlorite, Hydrochloric Acid 2NaClO2 + NaOCl + 2HCl

2ClO2 + 3NaCl +H2O

100 95+ 95+ High – with vacuum based systems
  • Excellent
  • Can substitute other acids
Minimal
  • Minimal excess chlorine
  • Least amount of by-products

  • OK
  • Excess acidity and unreacted chlorite
  • Substitute other acids
Minimal
  • No excess Cl2
  • Good for low volume applications
  • Simple equipment
  • Lowest efficiency
  • Highest Cost/Lb.
  • 3-4X overfeed of acid required

Chlorine Dioxide Generator Pricing

The cost of a chlorine dioxide generator depends on many variables, including the generation method chosen, production capacity, plant flow range, tank options, flow pacing, power available, and site constraints. For these reasons, the price of generators can range widely━starting at $7,000 for simple applications to >$100,000 for large-scale operations.

International Dioxide custom engineers generators to fulfill all of these variables. That’s why we produce quotes to meet your application specifications upon request.

Generator Maintenance and Support

International Dioxcide provides a team of engineers, application experts, and field service personnel that are highly knowledgeable in chlorine dioxide chemistry and the handling of the chemical precursors.

We’ve seen too many applications of chlorine dioxide that are poorly designed and nearly impossible to operate. Unfortunately, this experience can drive organizations to explore alternative chemistries. Don’t risk your application or the safety of your employees.
